KBO League Surpasses 5 Million Viewers, Defying Expectations Amidst Pandemic

The KBO League Sets to Hit 5 Million Viewers Amidst Pandemic

The professional baseball KBO League is on track to surpass the 5 million viewer mark, marking a faster pace compared to the time before the outbreak of the new coronavirus infection (Corona 19).

The KBO secretariat revealed on the 4th that a total of 4,999,922 individuals have attended the games up until the 3rd, with only 78 more people needed to cross the 5 million milestone.

If this achievement is attained on the 4th, it will be a noteworthy highlight in the league’s history, as reaching 4 million viewers took 93 games and was achieved last month on the 2nd.

The number of games reaching 4 to 5 million viewers is the second fastest since 2015, when the league adopted a 10-club structure.

Furthermore, the average total attendance of 11,062 spectators indicates a significant 34% increase compared to the same number of games last year.

The LG Twins Lead in Average Attendance Numbers

Among the teams, the LG Twins claim the top spot in terms of average spectators per game, standing as the frontrunners in the league.

Over the course of 49 home games, a staggering 795,141 individuals attended LG matches, averaging 16,228 per game, thus securing the highest total and average attendance.

Following LG, the SSG Landers (14,755), Lotte Giants (13,258), Doosan Bears (13,25), Samsung Lions (11,40), and KIA Tigers (1) recorded significant attendance figures.

Notably, six out of the 10 clubs garnered an average attendance of over 10,000.

Spectator Numbers Soar, Marking Positive Growth

One key point to highlight is the fact that viewership has surged even amidst the full spread of Corona 19.

Compared to the 2019 season, the average number of viewers has increased by 3.4% for the same number of games, and the number of games required to reach the 5 million viewership milestone has reduced from 463 games in 2019 to 457 games this season.

This suggests that more baseball fans have returned to the stadiums following the lifting of quarantine measures, outweighing those who may have been disappointed by underwhelming performance in the World Baseball Classic (WBC) held prior to the start of the regular season.

In addition, the fierce competition for playoff positions has not only impacted attendance figures but also television ratings.

As of the 3rd, the league average rating stands at 0.864%, showing an approximate 6% increase compared to the same number of games last season.

The professional baseball KBO League is about to break through 5 million viewers with a faster trend than the era before the new coronavirus infection epidemic (Corona 19).

The KBO secretariat announced on the 4th that “4,999,922 people have accumulated from 452 games until the 3rd enters, and if only 78 more people enter in the future, it will be more than 5 million viewers.”

If he achieves 5 million viewers on the 4th, it will be the first time in 93 games since the 4 million viewers broke new ground on the 2nd of last month.

The number of games with 4 million to 5 million viewers is the second fastest since 2015, when the 10 club system started.

The average total attendance was 11,062, an increase of 34% compared to the same number of games last year.

The club with the highest average number of spectators per game is the LG Twins, which ranks first in the league.

A total of 795,141 people entered LG for 49 games played at home, recording an average of 16,228 per game, the highest total and average attendance.

It was followed by SSG Landers (14,755), Lotte Giants (13,258), Doosan Bears (13,25), Samsung Lions (11,40), and KIA Tigers (1).

Six of the 10 clubs had an average attendance of over 10,000.

Kiwoom showed the highest increase, up 76% from the previous season, from an average of 4,548 last season to 8,000 this season. NC Dinos (70%), Lotte and Hanwha Eagles (48% above) are also clubs with a large increase in the number of spectators.

What is worth noting is the fact that more viewers are coming than before the full spread of Corona 19.

The average number of viewers increased by 3.4% compared to the same number of games in the 2019 season, and the number of games needed to reach 5 million viewers from the opening was reduced from 463 games in the 2019 season to 457 games this season.

It can be interpreted that more baseball fans moved to the baseball field after quarantine measures were lifted than baseball fans who were disappointed by the sluggish international competition, even though they performed below expectations in the World Baseball Classic (WBC), held before the opening of the regular season.

In addition, the fierce competition for positions had a positive effect not only on viewership positions but also on television ratings.

The league average rating is 0.864% on the 3rd, showing an increase of around 6% compared to the same number of games last season.
