Kerala Blasters Head Coach Ivan Vukamanovic Resigns: A Farewell to the Beloved ‘Ashan’

Kochi: Ivan Vukamanovic, the beloved ‘Ashan’ of Kerala Blasters and lakhs of fans, has resigned as the head coach. Although the team management say that the decision was made with mutual understanding between the club and the coach, it is reported that the lack of a title in the Indian Super League paved the way for this. Blasters announced Vukamanovic’s departure via social media. The club’s page noted that they would like to thank Ivan for his leadership and dedication and wish him well on his journey.

Vukomanovic, who joined Kerala Blasters in 2021, is the architect and captain of the club’s many successes. Ivan, who is a former player from Serbia, managed to take the club to the ISL play-offs three times in a row and once again. In 2021-22, Evan also had the highest points total in a season in the club’s history. In 2022, the team had progressed a long way in the number of goals. The Club Director, Karolis Skinkis, said that Ivan had a huge impact on the success of the team for three years and it was a pleasure to work with him.

Following the club’s official announcement of his departure, many people have come forward to thank Vukamanovic for his coaching excellence and commitment. Ivan will take over as the tenth coach of yet-to-be-titled Kerala Blasters in June 2021. The team renewed its contract in 2022 with Vukamanovic, who led the team to the finals in the first season. This was the first time in the history of the team that a coach was renewed. It was announced in 2022 that Evan will stay with the team until 2025.

Blasters lost to Odisha FC in the play-offs held in Bhubaneswar earlier in the season, missing out on the ISL semi-finals. The yellow team started the season brilliantly and suffered injuries. Evan was affectionately called Aasan by his fans.
