KHNP signs a letter of intent for cooperation in the second phase of Poland’s nuclear power plant project

In addition, the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy and the State Property Administration of Poland signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) to make efforts to support the cooperation of the Fonteoupe project nuclear power plant promoted by companies, and to expand cooperation by sharing information when to each other.

The Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy and KHNP explained that the LOI and MoU were newly promoted to complement the existing nuclear power plant plan led by the Polish government contained in the Polish Energy Policy 2040 (PEP 2040).

KHNP, PGE, and Jeffak announced that they would jointly prepare a plan for the construction of a nuclear power plant based on Korea’s APR1400 technology. In addition, it was decided to carry out a geotechnical, seismic and environmental analysis of the condition of the Pontneuf site, and to estimate the budget for each stage of pre-work operation in accordance with the jointly proposed funding model.

After defining the impact on the operation of the project, and preparing milestones for the implementation of the project, it was decided to prepare a basic plan for the new nuclear power station including the above by the end of this year.

Industry Minister Lee Chang-yang said, “This achievement was supported by the strong will and policy of the Yun Seok-yeol government in Korea to export nuclear power plants.”

Hwang Joo-ho, president of KHNP, said, “Korea’s APR1400 reactor is a 3+ generation furnace and has the most advanced safety and security facilities. Its purpose is to reaffirm the competitiveness of Korea’s nuclear power industry,” he said.

Meanwhile, KHNP suffered hardships from US Westinghouse in the first phase of the Polish nuclear power plant construction project. In the process, Westinghouse also asked the Washington D.C. Federal District Court to restrict the export of Korean nuclear power plants, saying its technology is used in the APR1400, KEPCO and KHNP’s next-generation Korean nuclear power plant.
