[디지털투데이 AI리포터] Phone Arena reported on the 13th (local time) that Kimi, an eye care application, was kicked out of the Apple App Store on suspicion of accessing illegal content.

Kimi is a service that protects the eyesight of smart device users and supports eye-to-screen distance alarms, blue light blocking, and viewing data analysis. This app was so popular that it ranked 8th on the App Store’s list of free entertainment apps and 46th on the free apps list. However, it was criticized as it was claimed that video content could be streamed via Kimi.

When you run Kimmy, a home page appears with tabs for movies, TV shows, etc. Below the most popular movie titles, the titles available to users are listed. In response, there were comments from users bragging about how they watched the movie “Frozen 2” and posts comparing Kimmy and Netflix.

It is unclear whether Kimi uses torrents to allow users to stream video content. However, some believe that Kimi is most likely considering the cost of hosting select items (renting large server functions).

According to data from Appfigures, Kimmy has recorded around 25,000 downloads since its launch in September last year.
