Participation in H2 MEET 2024 for 5 consecutive years
“We will emerge as a total solution provider”

Kolon Group announced on the 25th that it will participate in ‘H2 MEET 2024’, the largest domestic international hydrogen industry conference held at KINTEX in Ilsan, Gyeonggi Province.

H2 MEET 2024, now in its fifth year, is attended by related organizations such as the Korea Automobile Industry Association, the Korea Hydrogen Industry Association, and the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy, as well as major companies. Kolon Group has participated since its first year in 2020, and this year, it will showcase its unrivaled cutting-edge hydrogen industry technology.

Kolon Group is currently executing future strategies with the goal of building a value chain for the entire hydrogen industry, including hydrogen production, transportation, and utilization. Based on the nation’s best electrolyte membrane technology and the nation’s No. 1 wind power generation infrastructure, it produces green hydrogen while also leading the market in the hydrogen mobility industry with its high technological competitiveness, such as developing and supplying the fuel cell moisture control device, the heart of hydrogen fuel cell vehicles, for the first time in Korea. Through this, it plans to achieve NET ZERO 2047, a carbon emission zero target, by 2047.

Kolon Industries showcases its competitiveness centered on the hydrogen mobility industry, including PEM (polymer electrolyte membrane), MEA (membrane electrode assembly), and moisture control devices, which are key materials for hydrogen fuel cell vehicles. It began research on ‘membranes’, also known as separators, in 1989 and developed moisture control devices, a key component of hydrogen vehicles, for the first time in Korea in 2006, which it supplies to Hyundai Motor Company. Since 2020, it has been mass-producing polymer electrolyte membranes, a key material for hydrogen vehicle fuel cells, and has established a production base for membrane electrode assemblies.

Kolon Industries plans to further develop its water electrolysis material technology and expand its business area to green hydrogen production materials. In order to respond to perfluorinated compounds (PFAS) regulations, it has started developing hydrocarbon PEMs and is seeking to proactively promote commercialization in the water electrolysis field.

Kolon ENP will exhibit hydrogen vehicle component materials such as silencer housings, heater housings, membrane humidifier housings, and ion filter housings. It will present optimized applications for hydrogen fuel cell-related components to perform their functions through materials with dimensional stability, ion dissolution characteristics, and gas reduction characteristics.

Kolon Spaceworks will also exhibit its self-developed carbon fiber intermediate material ‘towpreg’ and hydrogen fuel tank products at this exhibition. Towpreg is a material made by impregnating epoxy resin into carbon fiber with excellent strength. It is produced by dry winding it around the outer surface of a metal or plastic fuel tank, dramatically improving the strength of the fuel tank. Towpreg and hydrogen fuel tanks developed based on Kolon Spaceworks’ technology can be applied to various fields such as automobiles, ships, missile combustion tubes, and space launch vehicles, and are lightweight and durable.

Kolon Group plans to build an H2 platform that covers all areas from hydrogen production to transportation/storage and power generation in the future. To this end, the group is implementing various plans to establish a cooperative body with external partners and establish itself as a total solution provider, along with linking hydrogen businesses within the group.
