JAKARTA (AP) — Former performers with oriental Circus Indonesia (OCI) have brought allegations of exploitation to the Ministry of Human Rights, claiming mistreatment during their time at an Indonesian safari park. While recommendations were submitted to relevant parties, Semendawai indicated that only a limited number were acted upon. He added that a police investigation into alleged embezzlement related to the children’s genealogy was eventually halted.

Earlier in April,Vice Minister of Human Rights,Mugiyanto,met with former OCI performers who alleged violence and potential slavery.mugiyanto acknowledged the complaints via his official Instagram account on April 16,stating that the victims,primarily women,reported human rights violations occurring at their workplace,a circus entertainment business.
The Ministry of Human rights plans to summon representatives from the safari park to gather data from all parties involved.
“@Kementerian_HAM will call the parties suspected of being related to this violence to hear the statement to take the right steps for the fulfillment of victims’ rights and prevent repetition of the same case,” Mugiyanto stated.
