Lim Hyun-taek, president of the Korean Medical Association, considered a ‘hardliner’ within the medical community, described the government’s policy of increasing the number of medical schools as ‘medical agriculture’ and announced that he would block it definitively.

They also said they will form a “pan-medical advisory body” to bring together the voices of the medical community.

I’ll put you in touch with the reporter.

Yes, the inauguration ceremony of President Lim Hyun-taek of the Korean Medical Association was held in the main auditorium of the Korean Medical Association Hall at 9 am.

President Lim, who took the podium, began by saying: “I feel a heavy burden on both shoulders due to a deep sense of responsibility to overcome the difficult situation facing the medical community.”

He said he will review the government’s plan to increase the number of medical school students by 2,000 students, as well as various unreasonable policies tried in the medical field, and put them back on track.

On the 30th of last month, in response to the Seoul High Court’s request for the government to submit scientific evidence and meeting data for the decision to increase the number of medical school students by 2,000, he said: “I respect the judgment of judiciary to put a brake on the government’s unilateral political push.” .

He stressed: “Today will be the beginning of the correction of the medical and educational system.”

“It has been revealed to the world that the basis for the increase of 2,000 people, which the government parrots claims, has already been interpreted by researchers as a takeover.”

President Lim said: “Conflict and division in the medical community is what the government wants” and called for internal unity.

In response to President Lim’s announcement to prepare for a one-on-one dialogue with the government and form a pan-medical advisory body, he appears to have been aware of the criticism leveled at Park Dan, chairman of the emergency response committee of the Korean Medical Association residents, said: “There was no consultation.”

Before the inauguration ceremony, the executive branch of the Korean Medical Association held its first permanent board meeting and began discussions on forming a “pan-medical advisory body”, but President Park Dan did not attend.

“(Have you discussed forming a pan-medical advisory body?) We have discussed that to some extent. We decided to listen to a variety of voices from residents and medical students.”

Meanwhile, the government urged the medical community to participate in the special committee on medical reform and announced that “individual consultative discussions” were also possible.

Minister of Health and Welfare Cho Kyu-hong chaired a meeting of the Central Headquarters for Injury Control for the Collective Action of Doctors in the morning and said: “With the launch of the Special Committee for Medical Reform, it is a forum for social discussion has been created, and separately, the government can also discuss an individual consultative body with the medical community.”

He asked us to actively dialogue with a forward-looking attitude.
