KOSPI and KOSDAQ plummet together… Russia’s invasion of Ukraine

The KOSPI and KOSDAQ plummeted as foreigners and institutions poured more than 1 trillion won in sales due to Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.

On the 24th, the KOSPI closed at 2648.80, down 70.73p (2.60%) from the previous day, and the KOSDAQ index at 848.21, down 29.12p (3.32%) from the previous day. The KOSPI was the lowest level in about a month since the 27th of last month (2614.49), and the one-day drop also recorded the highest level since the 27th of last month (-3.50%). The KOSDAQ also recorded its lowest level in ten days since the 15th (839.92).

The simultaneous decline of the KOSPI and KOSDAQ was accelerated by news of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. In the KOSPI, foreigners and institutions net sold 687.3 billion won and institutions led the decline, leading the decline. In the KOSDAQ, foreigners and institutions net sold 155.8 billion won and 17.7 billion won, respectively, leading the decline. As the KOSPI and KOSDAQ fell, listed companies in Gangwon-do also suffered. Kangwon Land was 25,550 won, down 500 won (-1.92%) from the previous day, Eubiologics (22,700 won) was 1,400 won (-5.81%), and Duzon Bizon (47,900) was 2,800 won on the same basis.
