Kottiyoor torture: Robin Vadakkumcheri’s sentence halved

Kochi: The high court granted leniency to Robin Vadakkumcheri, accused in the Kottiyoor molestation case. The sentence was reduced to 10 years imprisonment and a fine of Rs 1 lakh. He was earlier sentenced to 20 years in prison and fined Rs 10 lakh.

Robin Vadakumcheri had filed an appeal in the High Court against the sentence. The bench, including Justice Narayana Pisharody, heard detailed arguments in the petition. At the end of this argument, the sentence was commuted.

Robin North was charged by various departments in connection with the case. The trial court upheld the provisions against him, including the Pok‌mon case. Father Robin appealed against this.

The court, which upheld the Pok‌mon case and the rape, removed the charge of abuse of office as head of the institution. It was in this context that Robin North was granted parole.
