Thiruvananthapuram: Following Kovid, KSRTC is withdrawing concessions on ticket prices. The old rate will be charged from the 1st of next month. The concession given to super fast services is being withdrawn. On Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays, when there were fewer passengers, ticket prices were reduced by up to 25 per cent. This will increase the old rate. Superfast, Super Deluxe, Lightning, Chill and Volvo buses also got discounts these days. KSRTC announced the concessions to attract passengers on days when there were less passengers.

The maximum rates for long distance services on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays and ticket prices for bond services will be consolidated. The concessions are being withdrawn completely as KSRTC is returning to normal services. Bond service will be maintained on some routes if there is a demand. There are also plans to run bond services for schools.

The meeting with the Minister of Education will be held on Tuesday at 5 pm. In addition to bus on demand services, the concession amount for students will also be decided at this meeting. Discuss how the concession should be implemented. The main discussion will be whether to issue a concession card as before or check the ID card and pay a lower ticket.

The Justice Ramachandran Commission has recommended an increase in bus fares and concession rates. It is up to the government to decide. The recommendations were not implemented because of Kovid. No discussions have been held on this for the last one and a half years. Transport Minister Antony Raju said the government would consider this.
