Kremlin Spokesman Dismisses Financial Times Report on Xi Jinping Warning Putin about Nuclear Weapons in Ukraine

Kremlin Spokesman Denies Chinese President’s Warning Against Nuclear Weapons in Ukraine

Moscow, Russia –

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov emphatically refuted a report published by the Financial Times alleging that Chinese President Xi Jinping had cautioned Russian President Vladimir Putin against the utilization of nuclear weapons in Ukraine. Dismissing the article as a “false story,” Peskov denied any such warning took place during their face-to-face meeting.

Citing unnamed Western and Chinese officials, the Financial Times claimed that Xi had explicitly urged Putin to refrain from deploying nuclear weapons in Ukraine during their March meeting. However, Peskov contradicted these assertions, pointing out that both sides had extensively published the details of their talks, and the document resulting from the meeting clearly outlined the key points of their negotiations. He went on to dismiss the report as “unconfirmed” and branded it a fabrication.

Moreover, the Financial Times quoted sources from within the Kremlin stating that Putin had independently arrived at the decision that employing tactical nuclear weapons would not be advantageous for Russia’s military advancement.

The conflicting accounts highlight the complexities and sensitivities surrounding the Ukranian crisis, underscoring the need for accurate and credible information amidst the escalating tensions.
