Immigration Protests Spread Across US Amid ICE Raids

Demonstrations against Immigration and customs Enforcement (ICE) raids have expanded from Los Angeles to multiple cities across the United States. The protests began following ICE operations in Los Angeles on June 6, which resulted in 44 arrests.
The deployment of federal forces, including National guard troops and Marines, has further fueled the unrest. A federal court is scheduled to hear arguments on the legality of deploying these forces in response to the immigration enforcement actions.
Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass had announced a curfew in downtown LA Tuesday night,and the Los Angeles Police Department made arrests as protests continued for a sixth day Wednesday,marked by mostly peaceful demonstrations with sporadic violence.
the immigration enforcement actions and subsequent protests are unfolding days before a scheduled military parade in Washington, D.C., commemorating the U.S. Army’s 250th anniversary. Additional protests are planned nationwide on Saturday.

By June 9, demonstrations had spread to other U.S. cities in solidarity with the Los Angeles protesters. As of Wednesday, protests had occurred in at least 12 cities across several states, including California, Washington, Texas, colorado, Illinois, Nebraska, Massachusetts, New York, and Pennsylvania.
In San Francisco, police arrested demonstrators, declaring one protest an “unlawful assembly.” Mayor daniel Lurie stated that local law enforcement would not participate in federal immigration enforcement.
Santa Ana, California, also saw protests following reports of ICE raids.Police chief Robert Rodriguez said that while peaceful protest would be protected, unlawful activities would not be tolerated.
Seattle saw clashes between protesters and police,resulting in arrests. Spokane, Washington, imposed a night curfew after protests there. Police Chief kevin Hall said officers used pepper balls to disperse crowds, and more than 30 protesters were arrested.
Texas Governor Greg Abbott deployed the National Guard to several cities, including San Antonio and Austin. In Austin, police used tear gas and pepper spray to disperse protesters, resulting in multiple arrests.
Denver, Chicago, Omaha, Boston, New York City, Philadelphia, and Washington, D.C., also experienced protests, with arrests reported in several locations.
What’s next
Nationwide protests are planned for Saturday, coinciding with both the U.S. Army’s anniversary parade and President Trump’s birthday. These demonstrations are expected to address a range of Trump management policies.
