Latest PS Plus Updates and Top Free PS5 Games to Play Now

PlayStation Plus has updated its monthly offerings for April 2026, introducing a new selection of titles for the Essential tier and maintaining its broader catalog for higher-tier subscribers. These updates, which became available on April 7, 2026, provide a mix of soulslike action, remastered classics, and anime-inspired RPGs.

April 2026 Essential Tier Lineup

The Essential tier for April 2026 features three primary titles available for subscribers to claim until early May. These games are accessible via the PlayStation Store hub and provide permanent library access once claimed.

• Lords of the Fallen (PS5): A soulslike title featuring a world divided between reality and umbral realms, characterized by tight combat and co-op invasions.
• Tomb Raider I-III Remastered (PS5, PS4): A remastered version of the original trilogy featuring 4K visuals and updated controls.
• Sword Art Online Fractured Daydream (PS5): An action RPG focused on raids and story crossovers within a VR world.

While the PS5 versions of these titles are highlighted for their enhanced performance, the inclusion of the PS4 version of Tomb Raider I-III Remastered ensures backwards compatibility for users on older hardware.

Tier-Specific Benefits and Catalog Updates

Beyond the Essential monthly drops, the Extra and Premium tiers continue to provide access to a larger Game Catalog. The Premium tier specifically includes exclusive benefits such as game trials, cloud streaming, and the Classics Catalog.

Premium subscribers also have access to the Sony Pictures Catalog and Ubisoft+ Classics. For those utilizing cloud streaming, a minimum internet speed of 5mbps is required, with 15 mbps necessary for 1080p resolution. This service is unavailable in overseas territories.

A notable change to the service’s content strategy began in January 2026. From that date forward, PS4 games are added to the catalog only intermittently, signaling a shift in how legacy content is integrated into the subscription service.

Service Management and Access

PlayStation Plus subscriptions remain active until they are cancelled. The service provides several core utility benefits across its plans, including online multiplayer access, cloud storage, Share Play, and exclusive discounts.

Subscribers are encouraged to claim the April Essential titles before the early May deadline to ensure the games remain in their library regardless of future subscription status.
