It was completely crazy,
Reilly Walsh said after making an immediate impact for the Laval Rocket.
New arrivals to the American Hockey League club’s roster led the offensive push during the weekend matchup, according to lapresse.ca reporting. The win showcased contributions from several offseason acquisitions as head coach Daniel Jacob evaluates his revamped lineup.
Walsh and New Forwards Score First Goals
Walsh opened the scoring in the first period with a precise wrist shot for his first goal of the season. The 27-year-old defenseman joined the Montreal Canadiens’ farm team over the summer after playing in the KHL. Walsh noted the intensity of the home crowd after previously playing in Laval as an opponent during the playoffs.
Forwards Sasha Pastujov and Brett Berard quickly followed Walsh with their first goals in a Rocket uniform. Pastujov arrived in an offseason trade that sent Sean Farrell to the San Diego Gulls, finishing the Saturday game with three points. Berard joined the club in a separate transaction from the Hartford Wolf Pack in exchange for defenseman William Trudeau.
Daniel Jacob Assesses Roster Adaptability
The head coach assigned Berard immediate responsibilities within the top six forward lines. Berard praised the transition process following his relocation from Hartford.
Berard said he already loves it there and feels at home despite being far from home, noting that the season has not even been underway for a week. He expressed appreciation for the team, the coaches, and the way the team is run, adding that he finds it hard to believe how easy the transition has been compared to the usual adaptation period when joining a new team.
Jacob stated that the weekend games provided a clearer picture of his roster’s capabilities. He emphasized that the coaching staff aims to maintain team identity while allowing players to express their offensive and defensive skills.
