Spinner Rashid Khan has been selected as the captain of the Afghanistan T20 team. Rashid replaces Mohammad Nabi, who stepped down after the T20 World Cup in 2022. Rashid has led Afghanistan in 2019 with seven each in T20Is and ODIs. And Rashid captained Afghanistan in both Tests.
“Rashid Khan is a big name in Afghanistan cricket. He has immense experience of playing the format across the world. He can take the team to a new level,” said Afghanistan Cricket Board Chairman Mirwaiz Ashraf.

Rashid will take charge in the T20I series against UAE next year. Rashid said that captaincy is a big responsibility. He added that he had the experience of leading his own country before and that Afghanistan has many gifted and talented players.

Rashid has played 74 T20 matches for Afghanistan and has taken 122 wickets. Five wickets for three runs was the best performance. Rashid made his debut against Zimbabwe in 2015.
Rashid, who also shines as a batsman, has often contributed crucially. Rashid scored 328 runs in 41 T20 innings. 18 times the player did not come out. The highest score is 48 runs.
