Sony has officially announced that it will be holding a phone launch event on Friday, September 1. The Japanese media outlet, Sumahodigest, recently reported on a mysterious Sony phone with the codename “XQ-DE54”. Although not officially announced, the phone’s benchmark scores have been revealed on the Geekbench platform. It achieved a single-core score of 2004 and a multi-core score of 5059. The device is said to come equipped with 8GB of RAM and run on the Android 13 operating system. The motherboard test code “kalama” indicates that it will feature the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 mobile platform.
Interestingly, this isn’t the first time a Sony device with a similar codename has appeared on Geekbench. In early August, the “XQ-DE72” model was spotted, and its benchmark scores were comparable to those of the “XQ-DE54”. Rumors suggest that these two models could be variants of the upcoming Xperia 5 V, with the “XQ-DE72” potentially being the Asian version and the “XQ-DE54” being the European version.
The forthcoming Xperia 5 V is expected to retain the same 6.1-inch screen size and 8GB of RAM found in its predecessor. However, the most noticeable change will be in the camera department, as the new model is rumored to feature a dual-lens setup instead of the previous triple-lens system. It is likely that Sony will opt for a combination of wide-angle and ultra-wide-angle lenses, abandoning the telephoto lens. Other notable features include the retention of a 3.5mm headphone jack and color options of silver grey, black, and light blue. Despite the camera downgrade, reports suggest that the price of the Xperia 5 V will remain the same as its predecessor, with the previous generation being priced at 29,990 yuan in Taiwan.
