Lee Jae-myung and KAIST Students Early Voting: Highlighting “Mouth Block” Incident and Urging Voter Turnout

Lee Jae-myung, leader of the Democratic Party, participated in the early voting together with KAIST students.

The so-called “mouth block” case, in which a graduate protesting against cuts to the research and development budget was dragged away by the president’s bodyguards, has been brought back into the spotlight.

He visited Daejeon and Chungcheong regions and appealed for voter turnout, saying, “Please objectively evaluate the two years of the Yoon Seok-yeol administration.”

Democratic Party representative Lee Jae-myung voted early with KAIST students in Daejeon, where the Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology and KAIST are located.

The so-called “gagging” incident was highlighted, in which a KAIST graduate who was protesting current cuts to the government’s research and development budget was dragged away by presidential security guards.

“I wanted to highlight the importance of science and technology, ignorance of government policies, etc. with KAIST students being ‘silenced’.”

At the same time, he stressed, “the Daejeon and Chungcheong region has served as a balance in politics on the Korean Peninsula” and “please objectively evaluate the two years of the Yoon Seok-yeol administration.”

Depending on the results of the analysis of 50-60 contested regions, he humbled himself by saying: “The People Power Party can take the majority of seats”, and added: “We must not sympathize with the ‘crocodile tears’ who call for maintain power.” and he criticized it.

The Democratic Party, which set a target of a 65% turnout, appealed through early voting to “judge the arrogant president who fights with the people and with the government and ruling party who ignore people’s livelihoods.”

Kim Boo-gyeom, chairman of the Standing Joint Election Committee, visited Bundang, Seongnam, Gyeonggi-do, where the race is being fought, and former President Moon Jae-in also joined him, saying: “Change can only be done if you vote.”
