On the morning of the 21st, the first day of the Lunar New Year holiday, Minister of Public Administration and Security Sang-min Lee paid his condolences at the memorial service for the victims of the Itaewon disaster without warning.

According to the Citizens’ Countermeasures Meeting for the Itaewon Disaster, Minister Lee visited the citizen’s incense burner at Itaewon Square in Yongsan-gu at around 10:40 that day. After finishing his condolences, Minister Lee was reported to have left the venue five minutes after arriving at the incense burner.

The Citizens’ Countermeasures Committee criticized Minister Lee’s condolence in a statement, saying, “It was a one-sided matter with no previous connection to the bereaved family.”

The Citizens’ Countermeasures Council emphasized, “As a key person in charge of the disaster, I came to the sympathy of the thief without a word of bitter reflection and apology,” and “the sympathy I sought without warning, forgetting my position and my responsibility ( as. Minister of Public Administration and Security) can provide no comfort.” he did

“Minister Lee, who has no official apology or answer to his resignation request, must resign,” he demanded.
