[파이낸셜뉴스] LG Electronics is accelerating its business-to-business (B2B) business by rolling out the world’s first hotel smart TV featuring “Apple AirPlay” to hotels in North America. LG Electronics CEO Jo Joo-wan, who has pointed to the B2B business as LG Electronics’ future growth engine, is expected to accelerate B2B sales expansion this year, focusing on commercial TV.

According to industry and foreign media, on the 26th, LG Electronics recently provided hotel smart TVs equipped with AirPlay, Apple’s wireless content sharing technology, to 60 hotels in North America belonging to IHG Hotels & Resorts, a hotel company global.

LG Electronics’ latest smart hotel TV models offer AirPlay out of the box, while older models can add this functionality via a software update.

Commercial TVs equipped with AirPlay further enhance the convenience of content for users. When a hotel guest scans the QR code on the in-room TV screen with an Apple device such as an iPhone, the two devices are immediately connected without any additional process. This way you can enjoy content such as videos, photos and music that you listened to on your personal device on the hotel’s big TV screen. Streaming services can also be controlled or shared.

In particular, LG Electronics has paid particular attention to security by ensuring that all content shared on hotel smart TVs remains private. When a hotel guest checks out, all related information stored on the TV is deleted. It is safer in terms of information security than asking customers to enter their ID and password into the hotel TV’s online video service (OTT) app.

LG is one of the leading suppliers of televisions in the US hotel industry and ranks first in terms of market share in the global hotel television market. Currently, LG Electronics is making B2B business a new axis for its sluggish TV business by providing a variety of commercial smart hotel TVs, including 43 to 75 inches with UHD resolution up to 4K, suitable for various spaces from general rooms to penthouse suite.

Some interpret this move as Apple and LG Electronics strengthening their alliance in the commercial TV market through AirPlay, a wireless content sharing technology.

An industry official said: “As the performance of the television business fluctuates depending on the global economic situation, LG Electronics is using the WebOS software platform and B2B business as a breakthrough,” adding: “The commercial television market is expanding into various places such as hospitals, schools and hotels.” “It is expected to emerge as a new battlefield in the television industry,” he said.

Meanwhile, LG Electronics achieved its highest sales ever last year, with its core businesses, including home appliances, showing solid performance and growth in its B2B business surging.

The percentage of B2B sales at LG Electronics is more than 20%. rejune1112@fnnews.com Reporter Kim Jun-seok
