LG Twins Rookie Kim Beom-seok Receives Valuable Advice from Captain Kim Hyun-soo: ‘Know Yourself’

LG Twins captain Kim Hyun-soo said, “Know yourself,” when rookie Kim Beom-seok, who had committed a base hit, entered the dugout. It was a great experience and valuable advice for Beomseok Kim.

Kim Beom-seok hit the team’s first hit in the bottom of the 5th inning in a home game against SSG Landers held at Jamsil Stadium in Seoul on the 9th, ending opposing starter Kim Gwang-hyun’s perfect streak. The ball that Kim Beom-seok hit flew high and landed on a fine course near the right line.

Kim Beom-seok stepped onto first base, took a step as if going to second base, and then returned to first base.

After the game, he laughed and said, “I caught (the right fielder’s batted ball) at the same time as I stepped on the base, but I didn’t go (to second base) because I was n thought the timing would be late. ”

Kim Beom-seok had already had a ‘dizzy experience’ once in the game the day before (the 8th).

In the 6th inning, when the score was 5-5, with no outs on first base, he passed by the third baseman and hit a ball that rolled deep down the left field line. While first base runner Shin Min-jae reached third base, Kim Beom-seok passed first base and ran to second base. The base running coach stopped him, but Kim Beom-seok didn’t see him. SSG outfielder Guillermo Heredia’s strong-armed throw was quick and accurate. The result is out. Kim Beom-seok asked for a video review, but the decision was not overturned. LG coach Yeom Kyung-yeop seemed to have predicted the outcome and smiled brightly, saying, “The player asked for a video review.”

Many players, including Kim Hyun-soo, who was in the dugout at the time, judged Kim Beom-seok’s challenge to second base unreasonable and shouted, “No!”

Kim Beom-seok said, “When I returned to the dugout, senior (Kim) Hyun-soo said, ‘Know yourself first.’ He added, ‘It was a good attempt, but you have to try after seeing the (game) situation. Through this, you will grow and learn even more.’

In response to the comment, ‘I saw him trying to reach one more base for two days in a row,’ Kim Beom-seok said, “If I advance one more base, the team’s chance of scoring increases. Yesterday ( the 8th) , I didn’t see Coach Jeong Su-seong’s sign to convince me, but today I said, ‘Stop.’ When asked, “I could have gone to second if the base running coach hadn’t stopped me,” he laughed and said, “I would have learned from yesterday’s play (the 8th) and not gone.”

From the 9th, Kim Beom-seok recorded a 0.358 batting average (19 hits in 53 at-bats), 3 home runs, and 16 RBI in 18 games, emerging as a candidate for Rookie of the Year. Last year, his rookie season, he had just 29 at-bats and remains eligible for this year’s Rookie of the Year Award.

Kim Beom-seok’s RBI per at-bat is 0.30, the highest among players with more than 50 at-bats. SSG Choi Jeong (0.27) follows. In the scoring position, he has a batting average of 0.545 (6 hits in 11 at-bats) and 12 RBI. The batting average when there are runners (0.409) is higher than when there are no runners (0.323).

Kim Beom-seok said, “I’m happy to be able to play every day.” He is accumulating valuable experience bit by bit by taking part in first team games.
