The 23rd edition of the Lightning in a Bottle festival took place from May 21 to May 24, 2026, at the Lake Buena Vista Recreation Area near Bakersfield, California. The sold-out camping event drew approximately 25,000 attendees to the site for a weekend characterized by a loose and groovy atmosphere.

This year’s iteration featured one of the most high-profile lineups in the festival’s history. The event’s headliners included Mau P, Sara Landry, Empire of the Sun, Zeds Dead, Chase & Status, and Barry Can’t Swim. The programming also featured Tinashe and a wide variety of other acts spanning house, drum & bass, and dubstep.

In addition to the primary headliners, the festival hosted nightly stage takeovers. These sessions were managed by established Los Angeles party-mongers, including Baile World, A Club Called Rhonda, and Respect Drum & Bass.

Environmental conditions were a significant factor during the event, with temperatures reaching upward of 95 degrees. This extreme heat made the onsite lake a central point of activity for attendees, many of whom spent the day floating on shark, unicorn, and duck-shaped inflatables while music played from the shore.

Beyond the musical performances, the festival maintained its tradition of integrating holistic and educational programming. Attendees had access to a variety of workshops and activities, including:

  • Yoga sessions and spirituality workshops.
  • Educational sessions focused on health, intimacy, art, and food.
  • A dedicated gong tent and a sacred fire.
  • Astronomy opportunities via a giant telescope used to view the Butterfly Cluster of stars.

One of the more distinct installations was the Mixtape area. This space was designed to resemble a residential basement following a party in 1998, providing a backdrop for DJs who performed using cassette tapes.
