Firefighting crews in Riverside County, California, increased the containment of the Springs Fire to 45% on Saturday, April 4, 2026, as a decrease in wind speeds aided suppression efforts.

The wildfire, which broke out on Friday, April 3, 2026, has burned approximately 6.3 square miles, or about 16 square kilometers. The blaze is located in Moreno Valley, roughly 64 miles east of Los Angeles.

Containment levels rose significantly over a 24-hour period, moving from 25% on Friday to 45% by Saturday. This progress was supported by the dissipation of strong winds that had previously challenged crews.

Weather Conditions and Containment Efforts

Terra Fernandez, a public safety information specialist for the Riverside County Fire Department, stated that winds had dissipated a bit since Friday. While forecasts had predicted gusts reaching up to 45 mph on Saturday, the actual conditions allowed firefighters to make more progress.

Fernandez noted that the reduction in wind speed and an expected increase in humidity on the evening of April 4 would further assist the crews. Firefighters also utilized natural equestrian trails located near structures to gain better access to the fire perimeter.

To strengthen containment lines, crews began dropping water and fire retardant from the air early Saturday morning.

Impact and Evacuations

As of April 4, 2026, no structures have been damaged or destroyed by the fire. Because of the progress made in containment and the improved weather conditions, some mandatory evacuation orders that were issued following the fire’s outbreak on Friday were lifted on Saturday.
