(Central News Agency reporter Lu Jiarong, Beijing, 11th) Former President Ma Ying-jeou returned to Taiwan on Air China CA185 in Beijing this morning, concluding his second visit to Bank of China. The most high-profile event of this trip is the “Ma and Xi meeting”. This is the first time that the outgoing president of the Republic of China has met with the leader of the Communist Party of China in mainland China since the cross-strait separation 75 years ago.

Ma Ying-jeou and his party left the China World Hotel where they stayed this morning and took a flight from Beijing Capital International Airport back to Taiwan at 8:42. They are expected to return to Taiwan Taoyuan Airport at 11:45 today.

The mainland officials who came to see off the plane were Pan Xianzhang, deputy director of the Taiwan Affairs Office of the State Council, Xia Linmao, deputy mayor of Beijing, Huo Guangfeng, director of the Taiwan Affairs Office of the State Council, Yang Yi, director of the Liaison Bureau of the Taiwan Affairs Office of the State Council, and others. The pick-up and drop-off airports for this visit were of comparable specifications.

During the 11-day visit, he traveled to Guangdong, Shaanxi and Beijing, where he met with local leaders. Song Tao, director of the Taiwan Affairs Office of the State Council, accompanied him in all three locations, deepening and elevating the political significance of the trip.

During his visits many times, Ma Ying-jeou appealed to the feelings that both sides of the Taiwan Strait are members of the Chinese nation and are descendants of the Yan and Huang people, and maintained that both sides of the Taiwan Strait have a common history of resisting Japan.

What attracted the most attention was the “Ma Xi Second Meeting” held in Beijing, where he met Xi Jinping, General Secretary of the Communist Party of China, for the first time in nine years. At 4 pm on the 10th, in the East Hall of the Great Hall of the People, Xi Jinping, accompanied by two members of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau, Wang Huning and Cai Qi, met with Ma Ying-jeou and his party. The location and personnel arrangements highlighted that China attaches great importance to “Ma and Xi II” meeting”.

Ma Ying-jeou mentioned in his speech that the two sides of the Taiwan Strait reached a consensus in 1992 that “each of them verbally stated that ‘both sides of the Taiwan Strait adhere to the one-China principle.'” However, he did not mention that the two sides of the Taiwan Strait “have different understandings of the meaning of one China.”

Therefore, during this trip, he interpreted the “1992 Consensus” with the above-mentioned “Each Table, One China”. This is different from the original meaning of “one China, separate representations” that Ma Ying-jeou and the Kuomintang insisted on.

When Ma Ying-jeou visited mainland China for the first time last year, he also said “each shows one China” when he met with Song Tao at the East Lake Hotel in Wuhan.

In addition, in his speech at the “Ma Xi Second Meeting”, he made a “slip of the tongue” and referred to “the Chinese nation” as “the Republic of China”.

Xi Jinping’s speech explained that both sides of the Taiwan Strait are Chinese and one family, and that speaking out can help the Taiwanese people live a good life. The content of the words was moderate, and the Xinhua News Agency’s press release revealed the expected change in cross-strait tourism policies.

After the “Second Meeting between Ma and Xi” ended at the Great Hall of the People, Xi Jinping hosted a banquet for Ma Ying-jeou and his party at the Diaoyutai State Guesthouse. It is understood that at the end of the dinner, Xi Jinping also said to Ma Ying-jeou: “You are welcome to come often in the future.”

Ma Ying-jeou’s trip has come to an end. During this interview, he can only give remarks to the media after visiting some places, and the media is not allowed to ask questions. The media is also divided into three groups: A, B, and C. Only one group of reporters, about 5 to 6 people, can conduct close interviews every day. The number of reporters assigned to Taiwan media is 2, so the media needs to fight a “group battle.” Work together to complete the report. In addition, accompanying interviews are limited to most Taiwanese media and a few Hong Kong media based in Beijing, and foreign media are not allowed to participate.

Perhaps because of the arranged “people’s masses” and Beijing Taiwan students, they can only call Ma Ying-jeou “Chairman Ma” or “Mr. Ma” in this piece of land.
