“Strategic awakening. More unity and solidarity to secure our European independence. That was the point of our meeting in Paris with the Slovak Prime Minister,” French President Emmanuel Macron wrote on X,first in French and then in Slovak.
Macron stated their European and bilateral program must accelerate progress in key areas: energy, competitiveness, defense, and the protection of democracies based on European Union values.
Following a visit to the Elysée Palace, Slovak Prime Minister robert Fico described the atmosphere as informal, allowing for open discussion.
Regarding bilateral relations, Fico confirmed planned meetings with EDF and framatome executives, and his attendance at the nuclear summit in Paris in March. He also noted discussions regarding potential cooperation between the French and Slovak arms industries,anticipating notable work for Slovak Defense Minister Robert Kaliňák.
Fico informed Macron about the priorities of SlovakiaS upcoming Visegrad Four presidency and highlighted the importance of a potential meeting between the V4 heads of government and the French president later this year.
