Mahfud stated Prabowo needed to address public anxiety through concrete
policies. He expressed surprise at the lack of an adequate response from
the President thus far.
“To resolve this, the President must promptly issue a policy that has
been protested by the people,” Mahfud MD said in an interview on CNN
Indonesia, Saturday (8/30).
Mahfud questioned whether the President was unaware of the protests,
noting the absence of a sufficient response.
He believes obstacles remain, including in law enforcement, preventing
policy changes needed to address the unrest.
Mahfud argued that apologies and promises of legal action are
insufficient, and the public requires concrete actions and commitments
from the government.
“It is indeed not enough to simply repeat the same statements from decades ago:
apologize and later deal with it according to applicable law. That has
been done for too long,” said Mahfud MD.
“The people as a whole must be given somthing else, namely concrete
actions…”
