Makassar Supermarket Cashier Assault: Timeline of Events
A cashier at a supermarket in Makassar City, South Sulawesi (Sulsel), with the initials N (21) was spat at by a middle-aged male customer. The incident was triggered by the perpetrator’s anger when he was asked to queue in an orderly manner.
The incident began when the perpetrator, who is a middle-aged man, was queuing at a supermarket located on Jalan Perintis Independen, Wednesday (24/12/2025) at around 11.30 WITA. The perpetrator carrying a shopping basket suddenly broke into the queue in front of the cashier.
“At first it was a transaction (serving other customers). Then I saw that in front of me, the father seemed anxious about getting in the queue,” said N to detikSulsel, Thursday (25/12).

N then reprimanded the man for queuing from behind because there were still other customers waiting first. However, the reprimand actually made the perpetrator offended and he threw his shopping basket.
“I immediately asked and said, ‘Sorry, sir. There is a queue from behind. Queue from behind ki first’. He immediately got angry and threw the basket. He said, ‘Just deal with me (my shopping)’,” he said.
The situation calmed down when N chose to remain silent and was willing to serve the perpetrator’s purchases to avoid a commotion. However, the perpetrator continued to curse and said that N’s service was very rude.
“So, I stayed there, I said let the noodles pale (yes that’s it). He immediately said, ‘It’s rude how you serve me. I also want to pay. Why are you so rude’,” he said, imitating the perpetrator’s words.
N again tried to subtly explain the reason he had reprimanded the perpetrator. However, before he had finished giving his explanation, the man suddenly spat in the victim’s face.
“I said, ‘Because there is a queue from behind, Mr. Tabe’, so I have to queue first’. When I had not finished speaking, I was immediately spat on. My face and hijab, clothes (were hit),” he explained.
After the incident, N, who felt shocked, immediately ran to the bathroom to clean himself. He also admitted that he had apologized to the perpetrator even though he was the victim of harsh treatment.
“I was shocked. I immediately ran up to the toilet to wash my face. He told me to apologize, so I had time to apologize there. Because I thought that if I went on for a long time, I thought that if I fought it would make the problem even longer,” he said.
N admitted that until now he is still experiencing psychological shock due to the dishonorable actions he experienced. At the time of the incident, he said, his co-workers and other customers who were at the location could not do much.
“Still traumatized. There were other customers who saw it, but didn’t say anything. They just looked at it. My friend who was near me just kept quiet because he was scared too,” he said.
N’s family emphasized that they did not receive this treatment and confirmed that the case had been reported to the Tamalanrea Police so that it would be processed according to applicable law. Ningsih hopes that the police will immediately follow up on her report.
“Because the family does not accept this incident. Yes, (legal proceedings) if possible,” he hoped.
