Chennai: Malayalam cinema has grown before the OTT era, says director SS Rajamouli. He was speaking at a press conference as part of the trailer launch of his latest film RRR.

Rajamouli was responding to a journalist’s question about the growth of Malayalam cinema with the advent of OTT.

Malayalam cinema has grown even before OTT. He also said that Malayalam cinema has reached out to more people during the lockdown.

Malayalam cinema has made great strides in the last ten years. In the past, Malayalam cinema and stars were more familiar in some places but during the lockdown, the film reached more people.

Rajamouli said that Malayalam players had fans in Hyderabad and even in small towns. The trailer of RRR directed by Rajamouli was released last day.

The three-minute trailer is rich with action scenes. The trailer hints that the film is based on Rajamouli’s cosmic visual magic, which is full of action, emotional scenes and war.

The film is set to release on January 7, 2022. Even before its release, the film had grossed crores of rupees. The Rs 450 crore film had grossed Rs 325 crore before its release.

The film achieved this feat through digital satellite rights. Wright’s acquisitions include C5, Netflix and Stargroup. Apart from Tamil, Telugu, Hindi, Kannada and Malayalam, the film will also be released in foreign languages.

The film stars Ram Charan and Jr. NTR in the lead roles. The film also stars Alia Bhatt and Ajay Devgn in lead roles.
