Thiruvananthapuram: The Health Minister has directed to increase the Kovid examination in the state to the maximum. If any of the participants in the public ceremony become ill, the entire family should be examined. Kovid examination is mandatory for those with symptoms and contact. At the review meeting, the health minister suggested that self-medication should not be allowed.

Health Minister Veena George has directed the state government to vaccinate as many people as possible to prevent the spread of measles in the state. The aim is to give the first dose of the vaccine to everyone over the age of 18 by the end of September. To this end, vaccination plans should be prepared in the districts and the vaccination drive should be strengthened. Special care should be taken not to delay the delivery of the vaccine. The shortage of syringes is also being addressed.

The Center has said that 1.11 crore doses of the vaccine will be given to the state. The minister said more vaccines should be made available as soon as possible. The minister made the remarks at an emergency meeting of the health department to assess preparations for coping with the increasing number of Kovid patients.

The Minister lauded the health workers for their dedicated service to Kovid prevention for over a year and a half. There are indications that the number of Kovid patients is likely to increase again after Onam. Therefore, hospitals need to be equipped to deal with any situation.

Although the severity of the disease is declining, care should be taken to minimize the mortality rate. Those with home isolation should make sure they follow the guidelines exactly. People with serious illnesses at home isolation should be identified and expert treatment ensured.

The meeting assessed the arrangements being made in the hospitals ahead of the third wave. In anticipation of the increase in the number of Kovid patients, each district is setting up hospital beds, oxygen beds, ICUs and ventilators. Pediatric wards and ICUs will be set up with special emphasis on pediatric treatment. Oxygen availability is guaranteed. Emphasis will also be placed on noncovid treatment.
