Man suspected of pushing French consul to suicide arrested in Douala

Ismael Njoya, also known as Mounpoudeyi Njoya Ismaël, was arrested at Douala airport on suspicion of being linked to the suicide of the French vice-consul in Douala, Christian Marie Hue. Hue was found hanging in his home last August. Njoya is suspected of having orchestrated blackmail involving a pedophilia and visa-trading scandal, which allegedly pushed the diplomat to suicide.

Njoya, who has a history of fraud, allegedly obtained 446 Schengen visas from the vice-consul as part of this blackmail. Njoya’s arrest is seen as a moment of justice for his many victims.

Following the death of the consul, the French embassy in Cameroon announced that a joint investigation with the Cameroonian police is underway to elucidate the circumstances of this “tragic” event.
