Nick Woltemade pushed for a late summer transfer from Newcastle United to Juventus after learning that multiple players stood ahead of him in the English club’s pecking order, head coach Matthias Jaissle revealed. Yahoo Sports reported that the German forward made the move on the final day of the summer transfer window.
The temporary deal brought the towering attacker to Serie A on a season-long loan without a formal buy option. According to coverage from Yahoo Sports, Juventus secured the player for an initial fee of €2.8m after previous attempts to land Joshua Zirkzee from Manchester United fell short.
Jaissle Explains Woltemade Role
Speaking to German outlet Kicker, Jaissle defended the decision to sanction the departure despite Newcastle facing notable difficulties and limited attacking options in front of goal. The head coach pointed directly to tactical demands and squad depth as the primary drivers behind the exit.
We explained his position in the team to him, which was linked to our style of high pressing, and in that moment, there were one or two players in front of him.

That competition for places prompted the forward to seek regular minutes elsewhere. Yahoo Sports noted that Newcastle had originally invested approximately €75m, including bonuses, to sign Woltemade from VfB Stuttgart just a year prior.
Settling In At Juventus
Woltemade has appeared four times in Serie A since his arrival, with every appearance coming off the bench. His performances and preferred position have sparked differing opinions among supporters in Italy, particularly as Bianconeri head coach Luciano Spalletti reportedly sought a different profile in an out-and-out centre-forward.

Juventus management intends to give the forward time to adapt to his new surroundings. Jaissle emphasized that the player retains a long-term connection to the Premier League side, noting that he maintains a high opinion of the German international because he remains under contract at St James’ Park.
