Mercedes-Benz E-Class Takes the Crown as Best-Selling Imported Mid-Size Sedan

The Mercedes-Benz E-Class: The Best-Selling Imported Mid-Size Sedan in 2021

According to a survey conducted by KB Capital, the Mercedes-Benz E-Class emerged as the best-selling imported mid-size sedan last year. The data analysis was based on sales figures from July to the previous month, encompassing both domestic and imported vehicles in this category.

This prestigious title comes as no surprise given the rich history and success of the Mercedes E-Class. With a remarkable 75-year legacy, this model has achieved global sales exceeding 17 million units, earning it the coveted position of the best-selling car in the history of Mercedes-Benz. Notably, the Mercedes-Benz E-Class has proven to be a tough competitor, boasting sales comparable to the domestically popular Genesis G80.

The rankings, following the Mercedes-Benz E-Class, featured other well-known players in the mid-size sedan segment. The BMW 5 Series secured the second spot, closely followed by the Audi A6, Mercedes S-Class, and BMW 7 Series. It is intriguing to note that despite its premium price range, the Mercedes S-Class managed to surpass the Audi A6, hinting at its strong appeal to consumers. Moreover, the sales volume of the Mercedes S-Class was over two times higher than the competitive BMW 7 Series.

When it comes to the domestic market, the Hyundai Grandeur reigned supreme as the top-selling domestic mid-size sedan. Hyundai Sonata, Kia K5, Kia K7, and Genesis G80 completed the top five rankings. Remarkably, the Grandeur also claimed the highest sales in the used car market. This surge in popularity could be attributed to its introduction of the “full change model” towards the end of last year, which sparked a significant increase in inquiries since January.

Hyundai Sonata and Kia K5, known for their association with mid-size sedans, confidently secured the second and third spots, respectively. While the new car market is witnessing a rise in demand for larger vehicles, the consistent performance of mid-size sedans in the used car market emphasizes their enduring appeal.

An official from KB Capital commented, “Medium and large sedans have always been the best-selling models across generations, and their popularity in the new car market resonates similarly in the used car market.”

The best-selling imported mid-size sedan last year was the Mercedes-Benz E-Class, according to a survey result.

On the 23rd, KB Cha Cha Cha, a used car trading platform operated by KB Capital, analyzed the sales data of domestic and imported mid-sized sedans for the past year from July last year to last month and released the rankings.

1st place in imported car sales was taken by Mercedes E-Class. As a result of the amount of KB Cha Cha Cha, this vehicle showed a similar sales volume to the Genesis G80, which ranked 5th in domestic car sales despite being an imported car. The Mercedes-Benz E-Class is a key model of Mercedes-Benz, which has a history of 75 years. Since its launch in 1946, more than 17 million units have been sold worldwide, and it holds the title of ‘the best-selling car in Mercedes-Benz history’. After the release of the 10th generation ‘E-Class’ released in 2016, the completely changed ‘The New E-Class’ model was unveiled in April.

2nd to 5th was followed by the BMW 5 Series, Audi A6, Mercedes S-Class, and BMW 7 Series. Despite being a ‘large flagship (high-end product)’ sedan with a relatively high price range, the fourth-placed Mercedes S-Class showed a slight difference in sales volume from the third-placed Audi A6 and took the top spot. Compared to the BMW 7 series, which is considered a competitive model, the sales volume was more than 2 times.

Hyundai Grandeur, Hyundai’s ‘flagship model (main product)’, occupied first place in domestic car sales. Hyundai Sonata, Kia K5, Kia K7, and Genesis G80 finished second through fifth. The Grandeur recorded the highest sales in the used car market. In particular, KB Capital explained that the ‘full change model’ was introduced at the end of last year, and that the number of views rose suddenly from January.

Hyundai Sonata and Kia K5, which are synonymous with mid-size sedans, took second and third place, respectively. In the new car market, the preference for vehicles with large bodies is increasing, and the sales volume of mid-size sedans is decreasing, but it is evaluated that it can confirm that it is healthy in the used car market.

An official from KB Capital said, “Medium and large sedans are the best-selling models of each generation, and models that attract attention in the new car market are also popular in the used car market.”
