Desai joins Meta as chief enterprise platform officer, reporting directly to Chief Executive Officer Mark Zuckerberg after serving less than a year as the top executive at database software provider MongoDB, according to company announcements and reporting by CNBC.

MongoDB shares plummeted more than 18% in morning trading following the sudden departure. The database software provider announced that it appointed Dev Ittycheria as interim president and CEO while it searches for a permanent replacement. Desai took over the CEO role from Ittycheria in November 2025 after Ittycheria had spent 11 years running the company. Brokerage Piper Sandler noted in a client communication that while the departure is disappointing, MongoDB remains well-positioned strategically and the share-price reaction is overdone. MongoDB has shed nearly a quarter of its market value in 2026. A source familiar with the matter told CNBC that Desai received an employment offer directly from Zuckerberg that he ultimately could not refuse. The compensation package from Meta was enticing enough for Desai to leave behind his pay package and severance at MongoDB. Prior to his brief tenure leading MongoDB, Desai spent a year as president of product and engineering at Cloudflare and worked nearly eight years at ServiceNow as president and chief operating officer.

At Meta, Desai will spearhead the newly established Meta Enterprise Platform, which aims to commercialize the company’s advanced models, agents, and infrastructure for business clients. The platform will initially prioritize a suite of tools featuring the newly launched Muse agent, a business agent, and specialized coding tools. Muse debuted earlier in the month as a personal AI assistant designed to execute everyday tasks including shopping, booking travel, sending emails, and processing payments on behalf of users. The Muse assistant has climbed rapidly in application store rankings on Apple’s App Store and Google Play, with industry analysts describing it as potentially the biggest app launch in the United States since ChatGPT debuted in November 2022.
