News (Nouakchott) The National Meteorological Authority expected to record an excess of rain totals over a large part of the country’s agricultural and pastoral region during next fall.

The authority said in a statement, “The current thermal conditions that were monitored and their future developments, as well as climate model forecasts, show that thermal conditions may be suitable for the fall of this year, which may lead to a rainy season between surplus and average over a large part of the agricultural and pastoral area of the country.”

The authority added: “We point out a high probability that rainfall totals will generally record a surplus in the first and second half of this year (June, July, August) and (July, August, September) in the majority of the agricultural-pastoral part of the country.”

The Authority expected that the rainy season would begin normally or early.

The authority noted that in the context of climate change, it is not unlikely that rain totals will record a deficit in some places, even in a wet year.
