Mexican Band members Murdered; Cartel ⁤Suspected in Tamaulipas

Five members of the band Fugitivo were found murdered in Tamaulipas,⁢ Mexico, after they disappeared while traveling to perform a concert.Authorities suspect the involvement of a drug cartel in the ⁤musicians’ deaths. The band members, aged 20 to 40, had been hired⁣ to play ⁣a show in a city known for‍ high crime‍ rates.

The musicians were lured to a vacant lot on Sunday, the supposed venue for their performance. family members, growing concerned, ⁣organized protests urging authorities to investigate⁣ their disappearance after receiving ransom demands.

Tamaulipas Attorney General ⁣Irving Barrios announced the arrest of nine suspects believed to be part of the “Los Metros” faction of the Gulf Cartel. The Gulf Cartel operates in Reynosa, Tamaulipas,⁣ near the U.S. border. The state is notorious ⁢for drug trafficking, migrant smuggling, and extortion.

“Law enforcement⁣ arrested nine individuals considered likely ‍responsible for the events.They are known‍ to be members of a criminal⁣ cell of ⁣the Gulf Cartel,” Barrios said at a news⁣ conference.

Investigators⁢ used surveillance footage and mobile phone tracking to determine the band’s last known movements.⁢ Authorities seized nine firearms and‍ two⁣ vehicles during the⁣ arrests.

Mexican musicians have been targeted before, sometimes paid to⁣ write songs⁣ glorifying cartel⁢ leaders, which fuels rivalries. More than ‍480,000⁤ people have died in Mexico ⁢due to drug-related ‍violence and organized crime. Approximately 120,000 remain missing.
