Microsoft Edge, deceptive advertising attack on news feed on new tab page | Zaikei Shimbun

According to headless, a fraudulent advertising attack that exploits ads displayed in the news feed has been confirmed on the new tab page of Microsoft Edge (Malwarebytes Labs article, Neowin article).

The fraudulent ads are delivered through the Taboola advertising network and appear as links to strange stories that may be of interest to users. When the ad is clicked, the user’s environment is checked, and if it is determined that the ad is not targeted, the innocuous page shown in the ad is displayed. On the other hand, if it is determined to be a target, it will redirect to the technical support scam page. According to Malwarebytes, such activity has been occurring for at least two months.
