The government announced on the 4th that it has newly selected three Meister High Schools, which are high schools tailored to the demand for industries such as games and software.

The three newly designated Meister High Schools by the Ministry of Education are Daegu Electronic Technical High School, Yesan Electronic Technical High School, and Gyeongbuk Software High School. Daegu Electronic Technical High School and Yesan Electronic Technical High School specialize in the semiconductor field, and Gyeongbuk Software High School specializes in the digital field. A total of 5 billion won per school will be provided to the three schools to support their opening in March 2025.

Meister High School is a high school that operates a curriculum tailored to industrial demand, with the goal of getting a job first after graduation. Currently, 54 schools are operating as Meister High Schools in new industries such as games, software, and smart factories.

However, except for Daegu Electronic Technical High School, which received the opinion of ‘consent’ as a result of the evaluation by the designation committee composed of education and industry experts, Yesan Electronic Technical High School and Gyeongbuk Software High School were designated as ‘conditional consent’. The two schools will be checked for fulfillment of the conditions by August, and will be finally designated as Meister High Schools around September or October.

Yesan Electronic Technical High School is known to have to fulfill conditions such as materializing the department reorganization, and Gyeongbuk Software High School to secure a practice room.

Lee Joo-ho, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Education, said, “We will do our best to ensure that Meister High School can play its role as a leading model for secondary vocational education.”
