According to recent reports, approximately 770,000 out of the 80 million members associated with the Kenpo Association, including small and medium enterprise employees, as well as health insurance associations for larger corporations, remain disconnected from the system as of this month.

In response to this pressing issue, Prime Minister Kishida held a meeting with Minister of Health, Labor and Welfare Kato at the Prime Minister’s Office on the morning of the 24th. During this meeting, they discussed the urgency of resolving the connectivity problem. It was decided that all necessary measures would be taken to ensure the collection and submission of the missing information by the end of November this year, with the aim to promptly complete the connection work.

He stressed the need for thorough inspections and subsequent corrective actions, while highlighting the crucial role of collaboration between himself, local governments, and insurers in achieving consistent progress.

Regarding the “small health insurance card”, the Ministry of Health, Labor and Welfare says that there are many cases where the My Number cannot be linked to public medical insurance information and cannot be used as an insurance card because the subscriber is not submitted the My Number information or completed a survey.
