More Individuals Test Negative for Nipah Virus in Malappuram District

Malappuram: In a recent development, the District Medical Officer, Dr. RRRenuka, has confirmed that the test results of six individuals on the Nipah contact list have come back negative. These individuals had their saliva samples sent to the Kozhikode Medical College virology laboratory for testing, and the results were received yesterday. Additionally, saliva samples from 11 more people have been collected and sent for testing at the Kozhikode laboratory.

Yesterday, 12 more people from the area were added to the contact list, bringing the total number of individuals being monitored for Nipah to 35. Specifically, there are 11 individuals in the Kondotti health block, 15 in the Omanur health block, five in the Nedua health block, two in the Tavanur health block, and one in the Mankada health block. Health workers are keeping a close watch on these individuals, while the control cell continues to search for the residence of one person.

The Malappuram district contact list primarily consists of those who had contact with the deceased individual diagnosed with Nipah in Kozhikode district, as well as the health worker from Kozhikode’s Iqra Hospital.

Currently, no individual on the contact list is exhibiting any symptoms of Nipah. However, they have been instructed by the health department to self-monitor at home. Moreover, those under observation have been advised to immediately report any symptoms to health workers and contact the Area Nipa Control Cell at 0483 273 4066. Furthermore, assistance and counseling can be obtained by contacting 7593843625.

The District Medical Officer also urged individuals who visited Iqra Hospital in Kozhikode on August 29 and sought treatment in the MICU and Accident Department to contact the NIPA Control Cell.
