Despite Trump’s support, Musk’s tenure was marked by controversy and criticism over the department’s sweeping cuts to federal jobs and spending.
Trump lauded Musk on Truth Social, calling him “terrific” and emphasizing his continued support. However, Musk acknowledged a conflict between his support for Trump and his reservations about the administration’s policies. He told CBS that he didn’t want to speak against the administration,but also didn’t want to take responsibility for everything it was doing.
The Department of Government Efficiency, DOGE, spearheaded by Musk, faced criticism for significant job cuts within the federal government. While Musk defended his record,he admitted that DOGE became a scapegoat for any cuts,real or imagined.
