Elon Musk Regrets Trump Criticism after Public Spat
Updated June 11,2025
Elon Musk, the tech entrepreneur and former adviser to President Donald Trump, has expressed regret over his recent criticisms of the former president. This comes after a public falling-out last week, largely conducted via social media.
Musk, a notable financial backer of the Republican Party in the last presidential election, posted on X, stating, “I regret some of my posts about President @realDonaldTrump last week. They went too far.” The statement follows Trump’s threat of “serious consequences” if musk were to fund primary challenges against Republicans supporting a controversial spending bill.
The dispute began when Musk harshly criticized Trump’s “big, beautiful” spending bill, which is currently before Congress. Some lawmakers opposed to the bill had urged Musk to financially support primary challenges against Republicans who voted in favor of the legislation.
“He’ll have to pay very serious consequences if he does that,” Trump told NBC News on Saturday, also calling Musk “disrespectful.”
What’s next
It remains to be seen whether Musk’s expression of regret will mend the relationship with Trump and how this might affect future political endorsements and financial backing.
