The Capricorn Foundation is investing N$2 million to combat hunger and malnutrition in Namibia, officials said Monday. The funding aims to boost existing programs and expand support to vulnerable communities.
A significant portion,N$600,000,will go to the gondwana Meal4Two Programme, which provides nutritional meals across Namibia. An additional N$1.4 million is earmarked for Genesis Namibia to specifically address malnutrition in the Omaheke region.
The Capricorn Foundation, established by the Capricorn Group in February 2020, has invested N$40 million in corporate social duty initiatives to date. This latest commitment underscores its ongoing dedication to addressing critical social needs.
Quintin Hartung, environmental and social impact manager at Gondwana, expressed gratitude for the continued partnership. He noted the Capricorn Foundation and Bank Windhoek’s long-term support, which includes funding meals and establishing sustainable gardens.
“As one of our longest-standing partners, the Capricorn Foundation and bank Windhoek have walked this journey with us by funding meals and helping us establish sustainable gardens that empower communities beyond immediate aid,” Hartung said.
Genesis Namibia also acknowledged the Capricorn Foundation’s commitment to feeding Namibian children. Riaan van Zyl, managing director, emphasized the collaborative effort with the Office of the Governor of Omaheke and local communities.
“Together with the Office of the Governor of Omaheke and our dedicated communities, we are not just delivering meals. We are delivering hope,” van Zyl said. “We are proud to be part of this life-changing initiative that brings dignity, care and nourishment to our most vulnerable children.”
The foundation’s support follows a prosperous pilot project with Genesis Namibia in 2024, which initially targeted 500 children in Omaheke with N$565,500. Due to the project’s success, the Capricorn Foundation increased its pledge to N$1.4 million, aiming to reach 1,000 malnourished children.
What’s next
With the funding secured, both Gondwana Meal4Two and genesis Namibia plan to expand their reach and impact, providing more meals and support to those in need.
