The number of patients increased by 25,000 from 278,000 in 2016 to 303,000 in 2020, with an average annual increase rate of 2.2%.

The number of men increased by 10.6% (19,000 people) from 183,000 in 2016 to 203,000 in 2020, and the number of women increased by 5.9% (6) from 95,000 in 2016 to 100,000 in 2020. thousand) increased.

Looking at the composition of the number of patients treated by age group for ‘urolithiasis’ disease as of 2020, of the total number of patients (303,000), those in their 50s accounted for 24.1% (73,000), and those in their 40s accounted for 20.7% (60,000). 3,000) and those in their 60s accounted for 20.7% (63,000 people).

In particular, there were more males than females in all age groups.

Professor Sung-gu Kang of the Department of Urology at the National Health Insurance Ilsan Hospital said, “The reason that men have more patients than women is because of the hypothesis that the male hormone (testosterone) increases the concentration of oxalic acid in the urine, and lifestyle habits such as drinking and diet and physical conditions such as obesity. may have an impact on the incidence of sexually transmitted diseases.”
