NATO summit in Vilnius – Duda spoke about his expectations

Polish President Andrzej Duda, at a meeting with the Polish generals in the city of Legionowo, said that at the upcoming NATO summit, which will be held in Vilnius on July 11-12, Ukraine should hear signals for rapprochement with the Alliance. It is reported by Ukrinform.

“We are fully aware of the conditions for Ukraine’s membership, and Ukraine also understands them. But despite this, it is difficult to imagine the future security architecture in Europe without Ukraine in NATO, as well as without Ukraine’s membership in the EU. And most importantly, it is difficult to imagine Poland’s security without free, independent and stable Ukraine,” the President of Poland said.

He recalled that this is “the basis of the Polish security policy for several decades, which no one should question.”

Duda also recalled that Russia’s nuclear escalation, as well as the overturning of the Wagner PPK into Belarus, is a matter of concern. During the NATO summit, a strong signal will sound from the Polish side: the Russian policy, which uses threats of nuclear escalation against NATO countries, cannot go unanswered.

According to him, in Vilnius, the Polish side expects, first of all, the strengthening of the military dimension of the Alliance, the decision on new, more detailed defense plans “that NATO has ever had since the Cold War period.”

“We are waiting for a declaration from NATO on keeping forces ready to quickly roll over into crisis regions. This is related to the issue of increasing warehouses with weapons and military equipment in the countries of NATO’s eastern flank,” the head of Poland said.

According to him, Warsaw also expects from the summit the strengthening of NATO command and control chains, which provides for an early transition from a peaceful state to a state of crisis and command and control of forces up to several thousand military, as well as a number of decisions to strengthen the defense potential and increase the opportunities for cooperation between the defense industry of countries. Alliance.

The President of the Republic of Poland appreciated the very good process of modernization of the army, especially paying attention to the strengthening of the air defense system, as well as the strengthening of the fleet.

“I expect that after the introduction of the program for the purchase of multi-purpose frigates, the procedure for the acquisition of submarines by Poland will quickly begin,” he added.
