Nevada Football: Announces Home-and-Home Series with Utah State (2027 & 2029)

Nevada Football Announces Home-and-Home Series with Utah State

Nevada football announced Monday a future home-and-home series with Utah State for the 2027 and 2029 seasons. The agreement marks the first publicly announced games against a soon-to-be-former Mountain West Conference rival for the Wolf Pack.

Utah State, currently a member of the Mountain West, will join the Pac-12 Conference in 2026.

The series will begin on September 25, 2027, with Nevada traveling to Maverik Stadium in Logan, Utah, to face the Aggies. The return game is scheduled for September 8, 2029, at Mackay Stadium in Reno.

The 2029 contest will replace a previously scheduled non-conference home game against UTEP, which will join the Mountain West this summer, turning that matchup into a conference game. Nevada now has three non-conference games scheduled for both 2027 and 2029.

The two programs have a long history, having played 28 times since their first meeting in 1904. The series became more regular starting in 1992, coinciding with the schools becoming conference-mates in the Big West, Western Athletic Conference (WAC) and Mountain West. Nevada currently leads the all-time series 19-9.

In Mountain West play, Nevada has struggled against Utah State, posting a 2-4 record, including a 51-14 loss in Logan earlier this year.

Nevada athletic director Stephanie Rempe indicated last week that she was open to scheduling games against former conference opponents. “We’re going to have to continue to look at it,” Rempe said. “We’re all in the same region, which is again why it doesn’t make great sense this all happened. So, we will look at all of those things. I think we have a couple coming up, and we’re looking at them. I’m sure there will be scenarios where we’re doing that.”

Boise State and Fresno State are Nevada’s biggest rivals that are also moving to the Pac-12 this summer, but the Wolf Pack has not yet announced any future games against either school.

In other scheduling news, Nevada confirmed a date change for this year’s road game against UCLA, moving it from September 19 to October 31. This change was previously announced by the Big Ten Conference.
