State Offices Adjust Operations Amidst Northern Nevada Winter Weather
State government offices in several Northern Nevada counties are operating on a delay or facing early closures today, , due to ongoing severe winter weather. The changes impact offices in Carson City, Churchill County, Douglas County, Lyon County, Storey County, and Washoe County.
Initially, Governor Joe Lombardo announced a two-hour delay for the opening of state government offices in Carson, Douglas, Storey, and Washoe counties. As conditions deteriorated, the Governor later ordered the closure of all state government offices (excluding essential public safety and corrections personnel) in Carson City, Churchill County, Douglas County, Lyon County, Storey County, and Washoe County at 12:00 PM today.
The Nevada Department of Transportation (NDOT) and the Department of Public Safety (DPS) are reporting increasingly hazardous conditions, including icy roads and potentially dangerous driving conditions across the region. Governor Lombardo is urging all Nevadans to exercise extreme caution while driving and to heed guidance from local officials.

The impacts extend beyond state offices. The Storey County Clerk’s Office Vehicle Registration Window (DMV) is closed for the day, . All other Storey County offices remain open at this time.
Douglas County Manager Jenifer Davidson, in consultation with Douglas County Sheriff Dan Coverley, authorized the closure of County offices at 1:00 PM . This closure applies to all County offices except those providing essential public safety, corrections, and court services.
The closures and delays come as Northern Nevada experiences a third consecutive day of winter weather disruptions. School districts across the region have also implemented delays, closures, and modified operations. Washoe County School District is operating on a two-hour delay with winter bus stops in effect. Truckee Meadows Community College has cancelled all on-campus operations, in-person classes, remote classes, and remote work from noon onwards. The University of Nevada, Reno has suspended all non-essential campus operations, while continuing web classes and remote operations.
Several other schools and childcare centers are also affected, including Tahoe Truckee Unified School District schools, which are closed, and various schools and centers in Reno operating on a two-hour delay or offering virtual learning options. Western Nevada College’s Carson City and Fallon campuses, as well as the Child Development Center, are also closed for the remainder of the day.
The adverse weather conditions are creating significant challenges for residents and travelers throughout Northern Nevada. Authorities continue to emphasize the importance of caution and preparedness as the winter storm persists.
