Victoria Strengthens Animal Welfare with New Advisory Committee Appointments
Melbourne, VIC – December 16, 2024 – Victoria is bolstering its commitment to animal welfare with the appointment of six new members and the reappointment of three existing members to the Animal welfare Advisory Committee (AWAC).This expert panel will play a crucial role in shaping the state’s animal welfare policies and regulations for the next three years.”Animal welfare remains a top priority for the Victorian government,” said Trevor Pisciotta,Executive Director of Regulatory Policy and Programs and Animal Welfare victoria. “This committee will provide invaluable advice to the minister and government on current and future animal welfare priorities.”
The newly appointed committee boasts a diverse range of expertise, including veterinarians, animal scientists, and animal advocacy leaders. Their combined experience spans animal welfare, animal husbandry, research, regulation, biosecurity, animal behavior, and agricultural production.
“This breadth of knowledge will be essential as we tackle key priorities like modernizing animal welfare laws and developing new national poultry standards and guidelines,” Dr. Pisciotta added.
