New Queensbury Veterinary Clinic Opening Soon: See the Plans
New Veterinary Clinic to Revitalize Vacant Bay Road Building
Queensbury, NY – A long-vacant building on busy Bay Road is getting a new lease on life as a state-of-the-art veterinary clinic. Dr. Robert Hunnicutt, a familiar face to many pet owners in the area, is bringing his expertise to the project, transforming the former Convenient Medical building into a modern animal care facility.
“The project is to take the existing Convenient Medical building, which has been closed down for a number of years, and implement Mr. Hunnicutt’s veterinary practice into the building,” explained project contractor Nicholas Denno of Northern Builders.
Denno emphasized that the renovation will meet the highest standards for veterinary equipment and space. While the building’s exterior will see minimal changes, including siding repairs and updated windows and doors, the interior will be fully transformed.
One notable addition is a dedicated “comfort room” designed for animal euthanasia. This private space, with its own entrance and exit, will provide grieving pet owners with a sense of dignity and privacy during a arduous time.
“We have egress and entry there for those folks that are encountering that,” Denno said.
the site plan also includes significant improvements to the surrounding area. Landscaping will increase green space, the parking lot will be expanded and upgraded, and stormwater management practices will be enhanced. A fenced-in area will also be added, providing a safe and designated space for animals to relieve themselves.
The Queensbury Planning Board unanimously approved the project, praising the redevelopment of a vacant building in a high-traffic area.
“We are always happy to see the reuse of an existing building,” said Stephen Traver, Queensbury Planning Board Chair. “It appears to be a very solid plan and a great new service for the town. I think this is really something that we’re happy to see.”
Board member Brady Stark echoed the sentiment, calling the project “an overall upgrade to what is currently there.”
Dr. Hunnicutt, who relocated to Queensbury from South Carolina in 2015, brings years of experience to the new clinic. After practicing for four years at Adirondack Animal Hospital in Queensbury, he joined Greenfield Animal Center in 2020 as an Associate Veterinarian.
