League Plus – Press reports revealed that Barcelona is keen to sign Liverpool player Darwin Nunez this summer, as the Uruguayan player is considered the ideal replacement for Robert Lewandowski.

Catalan coach Xavi recently refused to rule out Lewandowski’s departure in the summer, as the 35-year-old’s future has been the subject of much speculation.

The Polish international has scored 24 goals in all competitions this season, in addition to providing nine assists, while he has two more years remaining on his contract at Camp Nou.

However, Barcelona are under pressure to make some sales this summer, and Lewandowski’s exit would also remove a significant salary from the wage budget.

According to The Sun, Xavi’s side have identified Nunez as a target amid suggestions the striker could leave Liverpool when the transfer window opens this summer.

The report claims that Barcelona are confident they will be able to meet Liverpool’s asking price for Nunes despite their well-documented financial problems.

There is still speculation surrounding Mohamed Salah’s future at Anfield, as the Merseyside giants face the huge task of replacing inspirational coach Jurgen Klopp this summer.

There has been criticism of Nunez’s skills throughout his time at Anfield, especially this season, but the striker has managed to score 18 goals and contribute 13 assists in 51 appearances this season.
