McBride, a 35-year veteran of‍ the LAPD, issued a‍ stern warning to potential instigators. “If ⁢you⁢ come here and engage in anything other than a peaceful protest, if you turn to any form of violence, you will be arrested, and ‌we will⁣ track you ⁣down,” ⁤McBride said. He emphasized​ the abundance of surveillance cameras in the city.

“Absolute idiot,” McBride said⁣ of​ Newsom, citing high ⁣taxes and crime rates in California. ‍He accused Newsom of fueling the problem, despite the⁢ governor’s ‌expected 2028 presidential ​ambitions. In response, ‍Diana‍ Crofts-Pelayo, a spokeswoman for Newsom, stated⁤ that ⁤violent and property crime in California have decreased in⁢ recent years, and that other states⁣ have higher homicide rates. ⁤She also⁣ noted that California’s taxes are “near the⁤ national average for ⁤most.”

Bass’ office has not yet issued a statement.
