Nintendo to Launch New Game Console in 2024, Expected to Ship 26.6 Million Units

British research firm Omdia announced on the 26th that Nintendo will launch a new game console in 2024, and shipments of small and medium-sized game console displays will increase by about 14.6 million units.

“I heard that Nintendo will release a new game console this year,” Omdia analyst Hiroshi Hayase said in an interview with Bloomberg.

According to Hayase, Nintendo will use an 8-inch LCD display and will not use organic EL in new models this year. Omdia expects shipments of game console displays to be 12 million in 2023 and 26.6 million in 2024, with all 14.6 million shipments coming from new Nintendo machines.

Omdia holds a briefing session once every six months to announce forecasts for the display market, and forecast data is created based on interviews with display manufacturers and others.

Most financial analysts also expect Nintendo to release a new console in the second half of 2024. Sharp announced last year that it would supply LCD panels for new game consoles, although it did not specify the company name or the product name.

Nintendo said: “We have no particular comment.”

Nintendo released the current Switch in March 2017, and by the end of September 2017 it had become a huge success, selling 13,246 units. The company’s stock price hit a new high this month, driven by expectations for the new console and expanding sales of movies and products related to the popular game “The Legend of Zelda.”
